What will the future hold for sports communication in social media? Will it progress as technology progresses? Over the course of the last seven weeks, my classmates and I have studied and researched how communication is affecting the world of sports. When is the last time you attended a live event? Has the advancement in technology made communication with athletes too easy? What about the communication via fantasy sports? Are fantasy leagues for every sport becoming an addiction? Are sports fans communicating more because of those leagues and having competition and in some cases money involved?
Sports media has made huge advancements in the communication world due to the advancement of technology. Comments, scores and athlete recognition are instantly made public and communication has become easier. Is this a good thing? YES! I believe it gets more fans connected not only with their favorite players and teams, but with other fans as well. Just in the last six weeks, I have participated in not one, but two fantasy leagues with people all across the United States. Although we aren’t around one another, we are able to have that connection and that bond through the game of sport every week and that’s seems awesome to me!
We have television and radio casts that are able to reach millions of people in a variety of ways. ESPN for example is able to reach fans via text messaging, mobile aps, television and radio casts. They grew their fan base so much because now they can reach the older generation (that aren’t too tech savvy) as well we the younger generation who can’t keep their phone or tablets out of their reach! We have learned this in our class with being able to use our school email, google hangouts and text messaging. Although we used those resources for school purposes, any way you wanted to reach someone, it was instant and you could get a response back very quickly. The growth and future of sports communication is on the rise and it’s a beautiful and exciting thing for people like me who want to spread the joy and fun of sport!
