Week three is now underway and last week proved to be everything a sports fan wants! Toledo who was picked to lose to Arkansas has pulled the ultimate upset and has now began their season at 2-0. The rockets have a great team on both offensive and defense and the fans in northern Ohio are ready for a great season with momentum from last week to play and win again. This week we have Ohio State playing Northern Illinois after winning last week on their home field again Hawaii. Also, we have the horned frogs at TCU to play SMU on their home field in Texas. Have you picked an upset for this week? What team will beat a ranked opponent while finishing up their non-league competition? I really like Ole Miss gaming up with Alabama. This should be a great match up and the game to watch while Alabama has their first real test to how good they really are or aren’t.
Week two is among us and the top teams proved their rankings and playing to their full potential. Georgia State demolished Alcorn State in their season opener while Ohio State played an outstanding game against Virginia Tech who was the only team to beat them last year. Unfortunately, there were 11 underdogs who made the upset during Week 1 and made a statement to set a good tone to their season. How did your fantasy leagues play out? Were you one of the few to pick the underdog team or have confidence in the pre-season rankings? This week, all eyes are on Ohio State who brings Hawaii to the shoe and if they can keep their momentum from last week. Another big game to watch is LSU and Mississippi State, number 14 versus number 25. Who will win that match up? My prediction is the purple and gold. They have a tough team and will fight hard, even while playing on the road.
How much should the AP and Coaches poll have on what teams are selected for post season play? I like that there was a committee formed and could hash out any arguments for who was in the playoffs but should the AP and Coaches poll be considered or the only option to determine those four teams? Honestly, I think the poll should play a large part in the deciding factor only because that is an indication week to week of what team is the best. They wouldn’t put just anyone in the top 4 slots but the downfall to that is that politics do play some sort of a role in that as well. What team has the potential to win or should be winning all of their games if it wasn’t for their opponents that might already be ranked 1 and 2? If there are more teams added to the playoffs, should there be more representatives added to the deciding committee?
Now that the College football season is underway, do you like the new playoff season? Do you think there should be more teams allowed into the playoffs? I agree that only four should be contending for the National Championship for now, however I also believe there should be more teams added as the tournament progresses each year. For example, maybe at the 5th anniversary of the playoffs, there should be eight teams competing instead of just four. That would provide more opportunity for teams like Alabama that have a really tough schedule but might be better than some teams that go undefeated because their strength of schedule isn’t as high. At that point, should the NCAA start taking away some of the bowl games during post season? Now that more teams make the playoffs, maybe there should be less bowl games so the same number of teams competing post season stays the same.
Who will be the Quarterback that leads Ohio State to another National Championship? Will it be JT Barrett or Cardale Jones? Who do you prefer? Why is Braxton Miller out of the running for the QB position? Do you agree with the coaching staff in placing him as a wide receiver? Personally, I think that having too many QB’s eligible for the position might cause confusion for players but it adds to the hype and excitement of the team and gets fans and followers interested in the upcoming game other than knowing their favorite team is already the preseason number 1 ranked team. Urban Meyer loved knowing who would be playing before anyone else. The much anticipated first down for the Ohio State offense would reveal who Meyer thought could lead their team to another title. Why wouldn’t it be Cardale Jones? He played in three games last season, the Big 10 Championship, 1st round of play-offs and the National Championship game and exceeded all expectations in all three. He showed leadership and one heck of an arm and chose to rise to the occasion and succeeded. Cardale earned that position and despite a devastating injury for JT Barrett last season, his replacement did his job and knew his role on the team and for that, earned him a starting spot for the 2015 season.
The long wait is finally over! Welcome to the first week of College Football after months of waiting to see if the Ohio State Buckeyes can defend their title as the undisputed National Champions. Will Alabama rein back over the unbeaten teams or will their tough schedule get the best of them? Who will you be rooting for? Will your fantasy picks reflect facts, predictions or history between the two teams? How much will the AP standings change over the next few months? Will Oregon overcome the loss of their beloved Heisman trophy winner? How will the SEC and Big10 battle for the top spots of the play off winners? A lot of excitement coming from fans, players and coaches as the new season begins and the hype of new players, Heisman candidates and the “All In” mentality to finish in the playoffs arises. Are you all in? Are you ready for 12 weeks of gut wrenching plays, ESPN top 10 plays and fails and which mascot will Lee Corso pick every Saturday morning during College game day?
NASCAR. Boogty Boogty Boogty, let’s go racing! Drivers, start your engines! Some of the most famous and most exciting words for NASCAR fans everywhere. This weekend I had the amazing experience of attending a live race in Darlington, South Carolina. Initially, when you thing of driving a car around in a circle for 3 hours isn’t considered a sport. However, experiencing this event first hand gave me insight to what really happens and how much athleticism it takes to drive a car at high rates of speed. The drivers not only have to work out and be in great physical shape, but they have to undergo hours of constant turning and sweating while sitting in a vehicle. They are dressed from head to toe in safety equipment in case their car crashes and fire starts and racing season is all summer long. We all know that games on the court and field have a lot of strategy and racing is ALL strategy. Racing around without any kind of mirrors and knowing when to pass someone, slow down or speed up as well as strategy in when to pit to your crew are all managed and are key to running a successful race.
The ESPY’s is the main event of the year for Athletes to get rewarded for all of their hard work and dedication for the last year. It is sent to honor successful teams, players and coaches and it gives fans a chance to see their favorites off the field in a different professional manner. There were many opinions floating around about the recipients of some of the awards, in particular the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage that was presented to Kaitlin Jenner. Do you agree with this? People can agree to disagree but the bottom line is, Bruce Jenner was an extraordinary athlete and was well known for his performance in the Olympics. Along with his sports fame was the fame of the family who he was a part of. It took great courage and heart to become Kaitlin in the public eye and sports world. Although his athletic days are over, his legacy lives on and now holds a different platform for future athletes who are transgendered.
Injury and loss of players are a part of the game. Whether the player gets hurt during pre-season or during the last play of the year, any injury can be detrimental for a team’s success. This week we quickly found out about players on the Ohio State Football Rooster being suspended for misconduct and injury. One of the players, Joey Bosa has played a large part in the OSU successful season last year and is now benched for the first game of the year against Virginia Tech. Do you think consequences should be more severe for off the field misconduct? With harsher punishments for violators, do you think that would decrease the amount of violations for both collegiate and professional athletes? How teams recover from crucial losses such as this? Does this change the game day plan? As a coach and teammate, how do you handle playing time and responsibilities when that player returns?
Who is ready for some football!? This girl right here! I am so excited to watch if the defending National Champions can defend their title. Excited to see what team can stay on top through the whole season and which ones will fall. Who can handle the pressure when the going gets tough and what defenses will cave and which quarterbacks will stand tall. Next weekend will be the start for the boys of fall and the long, excruciating season full of believers and go getters.
